My First Blog entry… My first IMAX experience…Superman Returns in 3D..:)

Well, finally , I had my chance of posting my own Blog entry though not that exciting enough due to my laptop keyboards, I guess I’m way out of the latest computer hardware these days or… whatever. Anyway, like the heading says, and since I don’t have a great idea to post, I’d just tell my side of the story of the IMAX ‘experience’ I had. As most net browsers, we already have people who don’t like their experiences in IMAX or even hate the Mall of Asia, tsk3x… Well, I’m definitely not one of those people but I respect every opinion. he3x… As for me, it was good or should we say, satisfying enough. Let’s start with the mall, I was suppose to visit it a week after it opened, unfortunately, I only had the chance to be a mall ‘rat’ (though I don’t clearly know what it means coz most of us pinoys do love to spend time in malls) last July 1 and it was because I was persistent enough to get IMAX tickets for Superman Returns, though I know it was already sold out. Unfortunately, my friend wasn’t able to accompany me which was only the bad part and the worst part was to go back to that mall on a Thursday night since it was my only free time in my schedule of classes in LB. So I got my ticket, which was P350 and hoping to get the best out of it….hey! It’s still an IMAX experience, and that I had again a chance to stroll around the mall. It’s not that "humongous-ly" big, excuse me for the term, but i had the chance to stroll around it, including going into shops, for just 2 hours and 15 minutes. That includes affordable video call rates through the smart network to my parents, getting into the shops, department stores and even the supermarket and going to the baywalk view of the entertainment wing of the mall. I guess the only place I wasn’t able to explore was the call center area in the second floor of the mall (North wing of SM MoA, that is right wing of the main mall if your facing it).The Foodcourt was smaller compared to the foodcourt in SM Megamall but you could definitely find more food stops and stalls on the alley of the mall in between the two side wings of the main mall and of course, a large skating rink where lots of people were lining up.

Now, for the IMAX experience…. It was just great! I guess I did not expected too much from it, so I wasn’t that disappointed. I would be uploading the pic of the ticket, which was a normal SM ticket and also the globe pic up front of SM MoA (which was also some people didn’t like but I found it to be just fine, since the mall has one of the excellent architectures I had seen for a mall in the Philippines and hopefully its engineering does the same, though the globe was just fine and not great or excellent or ’swell’ as Clark Kent says so) (and I also have videos of myself in my phone before and after the movie in IMAX). Now back to the movie, the Superman Returns was what i had expected from a first comeback. The cast was great enough, Bosworth carried Lois in a different character (like an Audrey Hepburn image in her earlier times, which Bosworth admitted to have drawn her character than from the Lois of old superman movies (MTV movie news)), Routh did well especially in acting for a newcomer in big American film project, and the camera tricks were of average cinematography in the 21st century movie effects. Yes, I do admit that it Sucks (excuse me for the term) in why does it have to be Lex Luthor and Kitty again where kitty balances herself with being good or bad. But like in every comeback, which I compare to review lessons in class or an appetizer for a food menu, details are important. If Bruce Wayne had to return to the mountains and be dimmer in film like a first samurai installment, why can’t superman be the same. Details like Clark saying the word ’swell’, Lois lane not being able to spell the words right, the saying ‘its a bird, its a plane, its…’, superman having a child (try watching superman 2 on how it happened), and other factors that most superman fanatics in movies, comics etc. which I don’t entirely have an idea where important enough. So, the movie went to more of the dramatic side of superman and script lines where edited to have meaning and be remembered like what you could see in the TV series ‘Smallville’.

Now, why with this explanation? Well, it could be that it made the IMAX 3D experience more bearable to the head. Like what I expected from a 3D movie, 3D glasses were needed and selected scenes were edited particularly the action scenes including the ’signature’ ending where superman flies away from the earth, but at the same time, you must avoid seating on front rows. Unfortunately, I chose a time where seats on the center rows and columns were already taken (This was the July 6, 6:10pm screen time), so I had to seat on the 4th row, specifically D32. Now, why the headache? well besides having no 20/20 vision though you won’t be needing it with that big screen in front of you, the changes you made in wearing 3D glasses from one scene to another as to have the 3D effect and being close to that big screen just drowns you in awe but with an oww!. So, I guess the 30 minutes 3D time (that is divided and on selected scenes) made the superman action to be satisfying and great enough to be appreciated on 3D for too much action may already have strain my eyes and ache my neck.He3x…The sound was excellent enough for me, and the screen, well, it didn’t looked like 8 stories high for me but 5 stories high could still be the same and still large enough for a movie (or maybe i wasn’t able to count the possibility of 3 more stories high,he3x). I wasn’t able to buy food from the food stands but the popcorn did smell great from my seatmates in the movie theater. He3x…(ok, I was late, I arrived 3 minutes before they had to close the lights for the 3D trailers (Ant bully, happy feet… in 3D too, soon!) ). So, my P350 wasn’t a waste though some people might claim that a normal theater would do but like what I said before, it still was a ‘normal’ superman movie and no arguments about that but the 3D experience, like icing on cakes, just finishes and tops it all. Never had a companion with me on that night, so don’t start thinking funny and I went back to UPLB also in that rainy evening, anticipating for more 3D movies to watch in IMAX,… but still with a big smile… He3x. :)
